Margaret A. Willard Memorial Scholarship Application Guidelines
The Registrars Committee of the American Association of Museums
(RC-AAM) is sponsoring a scholarship in memory of Margaret A. Willard,
past chair of the RC-AAM, made possible through the generous donations
of her friends and colleagues. The award will be given annually until
the fund is exhausted. The award is not automatic, and may be withheld
if there are no qualified applicants.
The award will consist of one scholarship of up to $500 which will be
given to a Museum Studies student or intern who is focusing on
registration or collections management, to enable him or her to attend
a museum related professional meeting or workshop. This includes the
American Association of Museums Annual Meeting, any regional or state
museum association annual meeting, and workshops sponsored by these
groups. Funding for other meetings, including those sponsored by the
American Law Institute - American Bar Association (ALI-ABA), or AAM
Council of Affiliates organizations such as the American Association
for State and Local History (AASLH), or Association for Living
Historical Farms and Agricultural Museums (ALHFAM) will also be
considered. In return, the recipient will be required to submit a
summary report of the meeting or workshop to the RC-AAM for
publication.
To qualify for the award, the applicant must have never attended the
type of professional meeting or workshop for which he or she is
requesting support. In addition, a qualified applicant must be either
enrolled in a Museum Studies program (B.A. or M.A.), with a particular
interest in registration or collections management or currently
working at least 20 hours per week as an intern (paid or unpaid) in
registration or collections management in a nonprofit institution in
the United States. Selection of the award recipient will be based on
the applicant's present abilities, potential for development, and
commitment to the profession.
To apply for the award, complete the form on the reverse and submit it
along with the following:
1. Cover letter, indicating which meeting or workshop you plan to
attend and how it will be of value;
2. Resume;
3. Two letters of recommendation, including one from your faculty
advisor or internship supervisor.
Applications must be received by June 15, 1999. Faxed application
