Because, here in LA, if you were going to walk to work at a museum,
with few exceptions, you're probably homeless.
A volume of the more popular and attractive (ergo more jobs) museums
here in LA are located in the upper end of the economic spectrum (read
$$$big). You'd have to take the bus as an alternative. One way, no
transfer, bussing is over $1 and can be considerably more if there are
multiple busses. Transportation is not incredibly reliable, either,
and there are many problems with overcrowding on the busses.
If you take the train or one of the shuttles, it is far more
expensive. And bicycling, for the most part, is not an option.
Don't get me wrong. I love LA. It's just that it should be written
$L$A$.
