>Duties and Responsibilities: A federally-funded grant from the Institute
>of Museum and Library Services will support a group of East Central
>Illinois museums and libraries in the creation of an electronic database
>of historical material to serve instruction programs for upper elementary
>school children in three area schools. Under the direction of the
>Coordinator for the Digital Imaging Initiative (DII), the Research
>Information Specialist is responsible for two aspects of the grant
>project: 1) designing, developing, and testing a web-accessible database
>and user interface that will support the effective location and use of the
>materials that are digitized for the project; 2) assisting project
>partners in the digitization of materials. Specific activities include:
>evaluating existing database solutions and conducting technical needs
>assessment; installing and supporting software, including image editing,
>threaded email; Web applications development programming, testing, and
>implementing project applications; assisting users with digitization;
>preparing technical summaries for reports; collaborating with the
>project's Coordinator to ensure that technical work supports the goals and
>objectives of the project.

>Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's degree and training or experience
>in networked systems design. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with
>current PC, networking, and Web technologies, and application development
>languages. Excellent communication and writing skills. Strong service
>attitude and the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities.
>Preferred: Experience with DOS/Windows and Unix operating systems,
>Windows NT, Microsoft Visual Basic, Active Server Pages, and PERL.
>Familiarity with database design and with metadata formats for cultural
>heritage information (Dublin Core, EAD, CIMI, etc.) Experience in
>libraries, museums, or archives; Master's degree in Library and
>Information Science or Museum Studies; experience with educational
>outreach programs in elementary schools, museums, libraries, or
>professional associations.

>Salary:
>The position is a half-time Academic Professional appointment, available
>immediately, with an opening annual salary of $17,500, depending on experience
>and credentials.
