Curatorial Assistant
Airmen Memorial Museum
Suitland, MD
The Airmen Memorial Museum is searching for a full-time curatorial
assistant
to serve a twelve to eighteen month appointment. The AMM is located just
outside
Washington D.C. near Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. The AMM
chronicles the
history of the enlisted ranks in the U.S. Air Force and its predecessor
organizations.
The curatorial assistant works directly with the curator/director of
operations in
collections management, research, exhibitions, and various
administrative duties.
Specific projects include collections documentation and publications
production.
Regular duties include operations support and responding to telephone
inquiries.
The AMM functions within its affiliate organization the Air Force
Sergeants Association.
The curatorial assistant must demonstrate flexibility in performing
tasks in support of
both AMM and AFSA's goals.
A B.A. in Museum Studies, History, or American Studies is required. An
undergraduate
degree in a related field with a Museum Studies certificate or academic
focus is also
acceptable. Some previous experience, paid or unpaid, in a professional
museum setting
is also required. The successful candidate will benefit from prior
experience in collections,
research, museum operations and a strong interest in American military
history from the
social history perspective.
The position offers excellent health care benefits and a salary of
$18,000-22,000
based upon qualifications. This is a unique opportunity for an
individual wishing
to gain practical museum experience before entering an M.A. program.
