Denis enlightened us on the stunning reality of a Te Papa ( Museum of New Zealand ) label.  My favourites also  came to light in a New Zealand Museum, when we were checking the accession registers for entries that had been made by past ( and untutored) volunteers.
"STICK SHARPENED AT BOTH ENDS" is probably my No.1, closely followed by another label /entry which identified the cultural artifact as " OBJECT UNKNOWN" and then went on to describe the identifiable characteristics as including, a label with the text " ZENITH CAN OPENER"
The writers powers of observation were surely tested!

< Speaking of museum labels, I came across one the other day at the new Museum  of New Zealand.  It was a rugby shirt worn by a national sports star.  The label  helpfully explained that it was "made of cloth.">
