Director of Education
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for development, administration, and evaluation for
family
and school audiences.
- Supervise family programs, school programs, outreach programs,
including daily programming, performances, festivals and special
events.
- Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate full-time and part-time staff.
- Manager scheduling of staff and programs.
- Monitor budget. Maintain department records.
- Reports to the Associate Director for Exhibits and Programs
Qualifications:
- M.A. in museum or elementary education, art, science or equivalent
experience with 3 - 5 years administrative, supervisory and teaching
experience. Highly organized, creative problem solver and excellent
interpersonal skills. Good oral and written communications skills.
Ability to work under pressure with flexibility and humor.
Self-starter
and team player.
One weekend day required to oversee program operations.
Manager of School & Outreach Programs
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for development,a dministration, instruction, and
evaluation of exhibit-related programs for students and teachers.
- Coordinate school and community group visits, outreach programs
in the
schools and community, teacher training and professional development,
high school environmental science internships, the New York City Museum
School and media center programs, after-school programs and special
projects.
- Recruit, train and supervise school programs staff, interns, and
volunteers.
- Develop educational materials for students and teachers.
- Manager scheduling of staff and programs. Monitor budget. Maintain
department records.
- Interdepartmental liasion for school & outreach program participating
in exhibition development, external affairs, including special events,
marketing, and public relations; and development efforts including
grant
writing and reporting.
- Liaison to New York City Board of Education and other educational
institutions.
