Dear Listers,
Does anyone have advice for a trip through the "stans" of central asia:
Uzbekistan, Kyrgestan, Kazakhstan, northern Pakistan and western China. I
have business appointments in Tokyo, Insbruck, Austria, and again back in
Japan. I thought it would be a good excuse to explore two branches of the
Silk Route, west from Kashgar to Samarkand and Bukara, and, on the way
back, south to Gilgit and Islamabad on the Karakoram Highway.
Does Lonely Planet cover all the cultural sites that a museum person should
see?
When (if?) I return in late June I'll tell you whether it was worth the
effort.
