Please excuse duplicate messages as I am posting this on a couple of
lists.
San Francisco Bay Area museum professionals will be offering a workshop
in conjunction with the Registrars Committee-Western Region (RC-WR) on
Deaccessioning in Museums on Friday August 28 from 9AM to 3PM at the de
Saisset Museum, Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, California.
Registration fees, including lunch, are $15 for RC-WR members and $30 for
non-members (includes price of membership.) A late fee will be charged
for registrations received after August 13th.
Panelists will present information in breadth and depth on the
Deaccessioning process, including philosophical and ethical
considerations, internal and external steps, the necessary paper trail,
legal counsel and final disposition. Issues of use of funds from sale of
deaccessioned works, including definitions of "direct care," will be
addressed at the workshop. Examples of forms, collections policies,
codes of ethics and contracts will be shared.
