Campaign Coordinator Opening

The Lafayette Natural History Museum & Planetarium Association is accepting applications for a Campaign Coordinator. The Association is beginning a capital campaign to enhance and support exhibits, educational programs, and the planetarium in the Museum's upcoming relocation. This is an exciting opportunity with long-term development potential in a growing museum.

Lafayette, Louisiana (population 115,000) is located between Houston and New Orleans. Lafayette is a rapidly growing, culturally diverse community known as the center of Acadian and Creole culture. The Lafayette Natural History Museum and Planetarium will be moving into a renovated 72,000 square foot downtown facility in 2.5 years. Collections, exhibits, and programs will focus on astronomy, aerospace science, Louisiana cultures, the South Louisiana environment, and the Gulf of Mexico. City-Parish funds are dedicated to construction while Museum Association support will be directed toward public programming. The current project budget is $9 million.

The Campaign Coordinator supports the efforts of the campaign volunteers and manages various campaign components. The ideal candidate relates well to others, communicates effectively both in speaking and writing, and has superb organizational skills. Knowledge of word processing, database creation, and database management are essential. The Campaign Coordinator must be a person of discretion and tact, a quick learner, and a self-starter. Salary is in the low twenties.

Specific duties:
1) Attend weekly steering meetings and monthly cabinet meetings and take meeting notes; have notes approved by consultants and send notes to members of the committees.
2) Be on-site at agreed upon times to answer calls from consultants, solicitors and congregants.
3) Prepare any reports or materials needed by the committees.
4) Keep accurate financial records (pledge/paid/billing cycle).
5) Establish and maintain a prospect/solicitor data base.
6) Send thank you letters to pledgers/donors.
7) Bill pledgers as scheduled.
8) Make weekly contact with all solicitors (except steering committee) to determine progress.
9) Meet with solicitors who have no assignments and assign prospects to them.
10) Prepare any mailings required by the campaign.
11) Plan (with consultants) and implement the phonathon portion of the campaign.
12) Plan (with consultants) and implement kick-off event and celebration event.

Please submit résumé and letter of application to Joe S. Hays, Museum Director, Lafayette Natural History Museum & Planetarium, 637 Girard Park Drive, Lafayette, LA 70503. Fax information to (318) 291-5464.
