POSITION AVAILABLE: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
 Pejepscot Historical Society

The Pejepscot Historical Society , Brunswick, Maine seeks an executive
director.  We are a three-town historical Society located in a college town
on on the coast of Maine, about three hours North of Boston.  We seek  a
leader with management skills and preservation knowledge to oversee our
organization and its  three historic structures: the Joshua
Chamberlain Museum, the Skolfield-Whittier House, and the Pejepscot
Museum.

The Society runs active educational, exhibition, preservation and
public programs.  Its extensive collections cover the history of Brunswick,
Topsham and Harpswell, Maine, as well as General Joshua L. Chamberlain and
the Civil War.  The staff consists of a director, a full-time curator, two
part-time assistants, seasonal staff, and a large volunteer contingent, with a
budget of about $220,000 and an endowment of approx. $1 million.  In
addition to supervision of preservation activities, responsibilities
include community involvement, budget development, grant solicitation,
public relations and fund-raising, as well as planning and program
development.

A bachelor's degree is required and a master's in history, museum studies
or education, plus three to five years of experience is preferred.  Salary
is in the low to mid $30's plus benefits.

This is a hands-on position in a small but energetic organization.
Successful candidates may not be experienced in every area outlined here,
but will have the capacity to learn and grow in the position.  The Society
is committed to professional development, and staff are encouraged to
participate in outside educational and professional activities whenever
possible within the constraints of time and budget.
