CURATORIAL INTERN: Collections

CRANBROOK ART MUSEUM

Cranbrook Art Museum is a small but rapidly growing institution affiliated
with Cranbrook Educational Community, including Cranbrook Academy of Art,
and is recognized internationally for its educational programs,
architecture, grounds and sculpture. Working closely with the
director/curator of collections and registrar, intern will research
collections, assist with their documentation, storage, care, conservation,
inventory, display and interpretation and provide private tours. Intern
will have opportunity to curate a collections-based exhibition.

The Art Museum's collections, including the restored 1930 Saarinen House,
emphasize 20th-century arts, crafts, architecture and design, in particular
work by Academy faculty and graduates. Temporary exhibitions explore the
leading edge of the visual arts.

Ideal candidate should have an M.A. in art history, with an emphasis on
20th-century art and a specialty/interest in the decorative arts and
design; excellent speaking and writing skills; computer knowledge and
typing skills.

10-month internship, beginning September 1998. $6,000 stipend with a
modest apartment in Saarinen House. Applications reviewed until position
filled. Send letter (including internship and career goals), résumé,
writing sample, and references to: Gregory Wittkopp, Director, Cranbrook
Art Museum, Box 801, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan 48303-0801. EOE.
