I'd suggest that you contact Leroy Graves, conservator of upholstery at Colonial Williamsburg (757-565-8496) or by e-mail:  [log in to unmask]   Leroy has over 25 years experience in upholstery conservation and pioneered the primary elements of non-invasive approaches to upholstery conservation.  Leroy and Carey Howlett recently published an article on upholstery conservation for the 1997,  "American Furniture" , published by the Chipstone Foundation.
