Job Announcement - Horticulturist
The Chicago Academy of Sciences is seeking a staff horticulturist to be
responsible for plants in its Butterfly Haven greenhouse - live display of
lepidoptera indigenous to midwestern North America.
This position reports to the Curator of Biology. Responsibilities include
(but are not limited to) procurement of plant materials and plantings in
the Butterfly Haven greenhouse space; diagnosis, prescription, and
remedial treatment of plants; preparation of proper soil media;
maintenance of planting beds; application of treatments and preventive
measure that deal with plant problems in a manner compatible with displays
of live insects.
A BS/MS in botany, plant biology, ecology, or a related field is required
as are superior communications skills, a strong interest in informal
science education, and the ability to collaborate with non-specialists.
