Duties: Assists with the management of those aspects of the new Texas
State History Museum Project (hereafter "Project")
that relate to the development, design, construction, equipping, and
installation of the +/-165,000 sf museum's exhibit and
media elements. This includes but is not limited to an estimated 30,000
sf of long-term installed interactive exhibits and
10,000 sf of temporary exhibits, major multi-media and other media
productions, and an IMAX-type film and theater.
Works primarily in conjunction with the Manager of Museum Operations and
Programming and the consulting Exhibit
Design/Media team. Assists in ensuring that the exhibit and media
technical and design elements are addressed fully and
correctly throughout the Project, and that these componenets meet the
highest industry and design standards. Works under
limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative
and independent judgment.
Essential Functions:
Assists with the oversight and management of all phases of the
exhibit and media elements of the Project, including the
concept, content development, design development, and specification
phases as well as fabrication and installation.
Coordinates primarily with the Manager of Museum Operations and
Programming and the consulting Exhibit
Design/Media team, and also with the Curator of the Capitol, the
Project Coordinator, the consulting A/E team, and
the agency's architectural/construction staff.
Provides high-level consultative services and technical
exhibit/media assistance throughout the Project.
Assists with the review and evaluation of the Exhibit Design/Media
team's recommendations and designs which may
be presented in various formats such as storylines, storyboards,
prototypes, scripts, video drafts, scratch disks, etc.
Assists with review and evaluation of audience research consultant
findings.
Provides assistance with review of the integration of the
exhibit/media requirements into the Project's architectural
plans and specifications; and assists with review during the
construction phase to ensure compliance with the relevant
plans and specifications, recommending additions, deletions, or
modifications as needed.
Assists with review of the exhibit/media fabrication and
installation specifications, with the selections of the firm(s),
and with related contract administration.
Makes recommendations concerning Project budget and schedule as they
relate to the exhibit/media elements
involved.
Prepares reports and performs research as necessary.
Position requirements: B.A. degree in relevant field required;
advanced degree preferred. Considerable exhibit
design/fabrication management and special projet experience. Direct,
comprehensive, and current knowledge of
state-of-the-art exhibit technologies, practices, and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex interactive
exhibitry and comparable large-scale exhibit/media projects. Ability
to manage a large, complex project with many
participants.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in relevant field highly
preferred. Specific experience with
history-oriented exhibits and experience/knowledge of complex
film/multi-media productions preferred. Detailed
knowledge of Texas history. Wide-ranging knowledge of/ network with
the exhibit design profession; comparable
knowledge of/network with relevant media professionals desirable.
Salary: $36,000-40,000/year with state benefits.
