Two more thoughts:

The Field Museum of Natural History, in their "Inside Ancient Egypt"
exhibit, has a display case of forgeries and "reworked" authentic pieces
which had entered the collection over the years.

The Milwaukee Public Museum had, from mid-1996 to mid-1997, a small
exhibit on Money, put together by a museum studies class at the
University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. It contained a Feejee mermaid,
though I don't know if it was the original. (A friend of mine, and
frequent lurker on this list, Beth Gabryszak, was involved in that
installation.)

Willow: Where were you?
Buffy: Uh, I was looking at the fishes.
Willow: Was it cool?
Buffy: It was fishes.
