RESEARCH CENTRE REFURBISHMENT:
Research Centre Closure (Notice 4) April 1998
The Research Centre Reading Room at the Australian War Memorial
closed on 25 March 1998 and will reopen at the end of October 1998.
This closure is due to the Memorial's program of renewal of its galleries
and facilities during 1998. The new Research Centre will be accessible
directly from the galleries, making it an integral part of the overall
Memorial experience.
Interim services
official records will be accessible at the new reading room of the
National Archives of Australia (NAA) from the beginning of May.
limited reference and commercial services will be offered by the
Memorial. Response times may be longer than identified in current
service standards.

The following sources can be checked while the Research Centre reading
room is closed, enabling you to plan your visit when the Research Centre
reopens:

databases of the Memorial's photographic and art collections. Other
collection databases will be added progressively.
the National Library of Australia's Register of Australian Archives
and Manuscripts website http://www.nla.gov.au/raam/ contains a
database
of the Memorial's private records collection.
the NAA database, ANGAM, available at all NAA offices and soon
to be available at its website http://www.aa.gov.au provides detailed
descriptions of the Memorial's official records collection.
the Australian Bibliographic Network (ABN) provides details of the
Memorial's book and serial collections. ABN can be consulted at
local public libraries.
