Happy New Year!
I am trying to make some decisions about my grad school options. I am
currently in the process of finishing my undergraduate degree in Art
History (I also have a degree in archaeology) but I am really interested
in getting into the museum field. I would like some information.
I have narrowed my grad school options to two programs. One which
specifically deals with artifact conservation (which is what I am
prinicpally interested in) and the other which is called Museum Studies
and focuses on all aspects of the museum. I am at a dilemma. Is it
foolhardy to specialise (ie become a conservator)? My current volunteer
experience has been in galleries and in a conservation lab in a museum
and I really like it, but I would like it more if I could get paid for
it. Are there paying jobs out there for anyone in the cultural resource
management fields? Would I be wisest to become an insurance salesperson
or a real estate agent? :) Anyway, thanks in advance.
