Storm windows for historic buildings can be attached to the inside window
frames. The Demuth Foundation (114 E. King St. Lancaster, PA 17602) had custom
fitted one made about 5 years ago. They are lightweight acrylic plastic mounted
in narrow, paintable plastic frames that attach on three sides of the window
with velcro type adhesive making them both air-tight and easily removable. The
bottom of each frame is a compressible vinyl tubing that rests on the window
sill. This was an excellent solution and nearly invisible; very few folks even
know it's there. Contact the Demuth Foundation for details.
