1. Only a slight spray is necessary to kill the vegetation, and it is
applied to the leaves; no need to overspray and saturate everything, so
if care is used the spray should not interact with the foundation much.
2. I would fine it very hard to believe that the Round-up would damage
the foundation more than the vegetation. Living vegetation is BAD in
contact with buildings!
3. You're right, string trimmers can be damaging. Also don't strike
tree trunks, particularly young trees.
4. Chemical engineers have told me that among herbicides, Round-up is
relatively safe (environmentally). It is only effective in contact with
growing (green) plant tissue; and basically becomes inert when it hits
something else (the ground).
