Two particularly stunning works inspired by the Great Lakes in our contemporary art collection are:
James Spencer "Wave No. 1" 1971-72 274.3 x 335.3 cm - one of a series of gigantic wave portraits - this painted from a photograph of waves on the shores of Lake Ontario
Greg Snider "A Representation of the Great Lakes in Inch and a Half Galvanized Steel Arranged in a Space like This" 1983 428 x 580 x 120 cm installed - large steel-cutout shapes of the Great Lakes themselves presented as a 3-dimensional floor piece with oversize text of the title in behind
I could fax you images if you wish.

I am currently doing research for a BBC Radio program regarding artists
(living or dead) who have either been influenced by any of The Great Lakes, or
who have (or do) depict or The Great Lakes in their work. Any information is
helpful. You can respond on or off list.
Thank you.
