The Stanford University Museum of Art is seeking a curatorial assistant.
50% FTE, non-exempt. Minimum starting salery $1,095/mo + benefits.
Position available Dec. 1, 1997.
DESCRIPTION: Provides clerical support services to Chief Curator/Associate
Director and, as time permits, to a curatorial staff of six. Responsible
for internal and external photography requests/rights and reproductions.
Will handle routine correspondence relating to exhibition and publishing
projects; respond to some phone and e-mail inquiries. Other
responsibilities include some copying, faxing; some interaction with
donors, collectors, dealers, scholars, museum volunteers; some library
work, budget tracking, and other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires the ability to work well both
independently and as a team member. A capacity to organize and juggle
diverse tasks is vital. At least 3 yrs. office and computer experience
required. The ability to operate a Macintosh computer is essential with
proficiency in Microsoft Word and Filemaker Pro very important; knowledge
of desktop publishing systems appreciated. Command of English with
excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading skills
appreciated. Experience in library research and a background in the fine
arts desirable. The candidate should be reliable and punctual, possess
excellent interpersonal skills, and the willingness and ability to develop
new skills in a constantly evolving environment.
