I am an archivist in need of advice from the museum world. The
collection I am responsible for includes a collapsible top hat from the
early 1950s. Can anyone tell me whether it is better to store the hat in
its folded or extended position? I'm sure folds aren't a good thing, yet
when it's open its sides appear to be under a certain amount of tension
(sort of like an open umbrella, I guess) and that doesn't seem desirable
either. What should I do? Thanks in advance.
