The 25th Infantry, a black regiment led by a white officer, located at
Fort Missoula, MT, were pioneers in exploring the possible military uses
of the bicycle. They actually took a bicycle trip from Missoula to St.
Louis, and had adventures along the way which were documented by the
press and the officer in charge of the trip.
Unfortunately, the trip was less than productive in advancing the
military use of the bicycle.
