Here, rendered anonymous, is a quote from a Spanish acquaintance on
what the Spanish press, etc. has been talking about concerning the
Guggenheim Bilbao:
"Well, on the subject you mention (The Gugg. Museum) the question goes
beyond the actual site... there are problems with public funding (taking
money from other basic needs in order to build up the Museum), with Basque
Pride (Do not forget the HUUUUUGE controversy with Picasso's Guernica... as
Basque's Authorities want to have it installed in their brand new Museum,
whereas the Spanish -Central- Authorities are keeping it in Madrid) and the
ongoing problem with terrorism. Not to mention the Socialist management
versus the new Conservative one, and other structural controversies amongst
different regions. There have been a huge amount of articles written on
that, my favourite being a special supplement published in El Pais, which
-I think- must be easy to get through inter-library loan."
