Job Description - Director Georgia Mountains History Museum at Brenau University
Qualifications: Masters degree required, Ph.D. preferred (in history,
American Studies, or related field). Three years experience in museums and
teaching experience (at the university level) required.
The director will have the overall responsiblity for the operation of the
museum.
All duties will be carried out so as to conform to the constitutional
bylaws of the museum
The director will be responsible for the day to day operation of the museum
and will report to the Chairman of the Board
Duties
develop annual budget for museum oerpations
present an annual report to the Board
develop and train volunteer staff
develop and maintain internships with Brenau University
operate and staff the History Museum and its annexes: the Railroad Museum,
Model Railroad Museum, and the House of Whitepath
preside over all meetings of the volunteer and dstaff
obtain and mount displays of historical interest to the residents of
Northeast Georgia
be available to give presentations and lectures to schools and civic
organizations
build a strong relationship with the surrounding community
maintain all financial records
maintain membership records
develop a collections policy
set fee structures with Board approval
develop educational programs for the museum
teach one course per semester at Brenau
write grant and actively engage in fundraising
recommend the employment of support staff
other duties as directed by the Board
