There will be a major exhibition - actually three exhibitions - opening
January 24 at the Oakland Museum of California to celebrate the 150th
anniversary of the California gold rush. "Gold Fever! The Lure and Legacy of
the California Gold Rush" examins the history of the gold rush, "Silver and
Gold" looks at the new media of photography in daguerreotypes that appeared
mid-century, and "Art of the Gold Rush" presents the work of artists who
participated in or were inspired by the gold rush. All three exhibitions
present new interpretations of this significant event and its wide-ranging
impacts. Plus, not that I would have any bias of course, but I think these
exhibitions will be edutainment in the very best sense of that word. If you
would like further information, send me your snail mail address.
