I have no knowledge of any recent developments, nut it should be
emphasised that the over-riding focus of the Glasgow service, at least in
terms of the pordessional/academic background of its top management, has
been overwhelmingly from an art focus for at least half-a- century. Only
Trevor Walden, Director from 1972 to his premature sudden death from a
stroke in 1979, was from a different background - originally a natural
history curator, though even he had directed one of the major English
regional art galleries (Leicester) for the 21 years immediately prior to
his Glasgow appointment.
