PLANNING IN CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS
Effective planning establishes a foundation on which cultural
organizations can grow, change, adapt and prosper in an uncertain
world. This intensive course looks at the role and benefits of planned
approaches to development and management, and develops your ability to
select and apply appropriate strategies to meet your institutional
needs. You will examine the range of planning activities which are
crucial to museums, historic sites, galleries and other cultural
institutions, including:
- strategic planning
- financial planning
- facilities planning
- planning for staff and resource allocation
- marketing planning
- program planning

The critical role of community values and organizational mission in
the planning process are stressed throughout the course.

Instructor: Gail Lord is principal of Lord Cultural Management, and
has extensive international experience in planning for museums and
other cultural organizations
Dates: October 20 - 25, with preparatory assisgnment

Fee: $589 (Canadian Funds) credit & non-credit options available

Travel: Victoria is easily accessible by air or ferry from both
Vancouver and Seattle
