I agree. I think it would be in the best interests of every museum
professional for AAM to take up this mantle in a big way. Complaining is
not a waste of time. The squeeky wheel gets greased- as they say.

As many of you may remember, this topic of low salaries has come
up on this list before. The only comment I wish to add at this
point in the discussion regards the idea that there is no point in
complaining, and that we should just accept low salaries or
change careers. I think it is important to remember that
complaining is the first step in raising overall awareness to a
problem. If women in this country had taken this same position
(that complaining does not accomplish a good purpose) then women
today would still not be able to vote!
What I would like to see from AAM is a greater focus on this
problem on a regular basis. Unlesss I have missed
something, AAM is awfully silent on this important issue. I still
maintain that the greatest resource a museum has is not its
collections or programs, but its staff.
