Identity and Dreams, now showing at
http://www.lam.mus.ca.us/africa/armory/index.htm
This collection of African American children's artwork and poetry
originally appeared in the FLARE exhibition that opened at the Armory
Center for the Arts in June of 1997. These works are a small sample of the
materials produced by over 450 students from fifteen elementary school
classes over the course of a year. They reflect an individual exploration
of identity, personal history and dreams for the future.
The Armory Center for the Arts is a community arts center that engages
broad participation through innovative approaches to creating, exploring,
and presenting the visual and performing arts. The exhibition is a
collaborative effort between the Armory Center for the Arts and the Natural
History Museum of Los Angeles County.
