Well I think you've produced a very pointed rant.  I couldn't agree more.
The AAM is a political rather than professional organization and this is
when that unfortunate reality really shows.  The interest in this web site
demonstrates the deep hunger for active communication and serious
discussion.  It feels like a really good post-session beer-and-nachos
gabfest that I don't have to pay for myself or beg my institution for
money to attend.  And it is here when I need it and when the issues are
foremost in my mind, not just once a year when the organization schedules
its conference.
