<<.BUT I do not think many small
or medium sized museums will be around in the future....<<
I must disagree=when all is said and done there is still something unique
about 3D objects and the ability to give that feel by computer is still
many many years, away not to mention the other senses, smell, feel and
the like. I do agree that, barring some economic crisis, the museum
"profession" will be much smaller 15 years from now. If, as many
predict, the American economy has a worker shortage in the future, wages
will have to go up and I think many small museums will opt for part time
managment. But I still think communities will keep at some level their
local art, history and nature center museums.. The greatest risk is for
medium size institutions( I would say ($1,000,000-2,000,000). Too large
to be operated by part-time folks, too small to generate a lot of revenue.
