Does any museum take an object's monetary value into consideration when
they are deaccessioning? I have read numerous deaccesion policies which
include donation of objects to another museum; sale of objects to
another museum; trade/exchange of objects to another museum; and
exchange of objects for fair value.
Does anyone have a policy that includes "transfer to another nonprofit,
tax-exempt institution through sale for fair value, or exchange for
item(s) of comparable value."? In our current policy we are not allowed
to simply donate objects to another museum.
I am working on refining our deaccession policy and have talked w/AAM
technical service, but would like to hear from folks who have been
through deaccessions. Thank you.
