I have the distinct memory of reading somewhere that Thanksgiving was not a
national holiday (only an informal regional one, a harvest home) until
Abraham Lincoln made it one during the Civil War. If that is correct,
Thanksgiving in NO 1830-1860 is likely to be a non-starter. Sorry I can't
check this for you.
