I just started as collections manager at the University of Maryland School
of Nursing. We are planning on opening a museum and an exhibition on the
history of nursing in 1998/99. I need to work with the deans and other
powers that be a collections policy, including a mission for the museum
collections. I am looking for a couple of good models to help the deans
here understand what we need. If members of the list are willing to
share their policies or policy-making experiences with me, I would
appreciate it greatly. You can e-mail me privately or send me copies of
policies via snail mail. I can also call you if you simply want to send
a phone number.
I am more interested in policies that concisely state the mission, areas
of the collection, and the roles of curator and other staff members in
accepting and deacessioning collections. Policies of university museums
are especially welcome.
Thank you in advance.
