Hi Jane;

I can think of several "museums in waiting" which have had similar problems.
One of these currently is the Museum of Victoria in Melbourne which has been
given a mandate to develop an aerospace museum, based on (I believe) a nearby
airbase. I suspect the Strategic Air Command museum in Omaha started to move in
while the USAF was moving out of their chunk of the base. I am sure there are a
number of other examples.

With respect to umbrella organizations in the military history area, I am sure
there are a number of these around the world, such as the Organization of
Military Museums of Canada, which includes many small corps and regimental
museums, as well as somewhat larger entities such as ourselves. Unfortunately,
they do no seem to have any internet presence. There IS a military history list
which I tried and found to be a waste of time.

I would be happy to do anything I can to assist your colleagues. We are at the
starting point of a major planning process right now, which will result in our
gutting and rebuilding one floor and much of another while simultaneously
putting the first addition in our history on the building.
