We've started a mini-sabbatical, up to three months every three years, with
pay and expenses, so long as it relates somehow to the individual's
professional development or to concentrate on a research project, or
something that somehow is related to our museum. It's worked well so far.
There was absolutely no objection to the idea when I presented it to our
board two years ago. It applies to everyone on our small staff, including
clerical and grounds folks, as they also are called to do historical
interpretations in costume.
