I kind of like a little volume called "The Transitive Vampire:  A
Handbook of Grammar for the Innocent, the Eager, and the Doomed."
There's also an accompanying one on punctuation called The Well-Tempered
Sentence:  A Punctuation Handbook for the Innocent, the Eager, and the
Doomed."  Both by Karen Elizabeth Gordon.
