1997 Annual Museum Computer Network Conference
St. Louis, Missouri, October 15 - 18, 1997
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Communication
Within the Museum
With the Museum and its Community
Within the Community of Museums
Deadline for Proposals: April 30, 1997
Successful communication is fundamental to fulfil the educational mission
of cultural heritage institutions. MCN '97 will address the many ways
communications technologies are beginning to transform museums: from
delivering collection information to our closest constituents (staff,
volunteers and visitors) via intranets, to reaching a global public with
the World-Wide Web, to beginning to speak the same language
institution-to-institution, and to understanding the critical role
standards play in making communication possible.
While we are especially interested in communications issues, proposals may
address ideas and issues in any area of museum computing: infrastructure,
software and/or hardware innovations, successful approaches to difficult
problems, or any of a variety of other Museum technical issues. Specific
themes to explore include web development, digital cash, distance
learning, and intranets.

MCN's Speaker and Workshop Leader Policy
MCN is a not-for-profit membership organization. Its funding comes
completely from membership fees and conference registrations. Its
conference is an opportunity for members to share experiences and learn
from each other and from experts in the field. Thus, MCN does not
reimburse workshop leaders or program speakers for expenses. It does not
waive conference registration fees for workshop leaders or program
speakers. Because MCN does want to hear from experts outside its
community, it does waive registration for the day that a speaker presents
a paper or panel. MCN hopes that these speakers will register for the
entire conference. It expects that a member of MCN who is presenting a
workshop or paper would be coming to the entire conference and does not
waive the conference fee. MCN hopes that a member of the museum community
who is not a member but is giving a paper will join MCN and will register
for the entire conference.
