ICOM Committee for the Training of Personnel
ICTOP / ICOM Survey
Replies should be sent to [log in to unmask]
ICTOP, the International Committee for the Training of
Personnel wishes to collaborate more widely within ICOM with
National Committees, International Committees, Affiliated
Organizations and other members for the purpose of making
training opportunities available to museum workers to improve
knowledge and skills related to museum work.
In view of the scarcity of staff training and professional
development funds which the majority of us experience,
collaborations and partnerships are important strategies for
bringing our resources together to benefit as many people as
possible. With that in mind ICTOP wishes to explore the ICOM
membership's perceptions of ICTOP=s role and their needs and
expectations, for a mutually beneficial international
approach to training.
Please contribute to the following questionnaire so that
ICTOP may assist the ICOM community as effectively as
possible. It will take only a few minutes of your time. We
greatly appreciate your assistance - thank you.

Purpose:
To survey ICOM national and international committees and
affiliated organizations, and ICTOP Board and ICOM members
with a view to exploring perceptions about the current and
future role of ICTOP within the international museum community.
Objectives:
$ To gather information and perceptions of
ICTOP within ICTOP=s Board and members - what does it do and
what should it do
$ To gather information and perceptions
from other ICOM committees and bodies about what ICTOP is and
should do, including ICOM individual members
$ To compile the results of the surveys
for information of participants and discussion of ICTOP=s
role within ICOM and the international museum community
during the ICTOP annual meeting in Paris in 2005.
$ To take the surveys and meeting
discussions and adapt ICTOP=s planning to meet the needs
revealed by the report and discussions.
$ To determine what follow-up actions are
required by ICTOP Board and members to further the mission of
ICTOP within this context
$ To identify other committees and
organizations with a committed interest in training of museum
workers and consider methods of collaboration and cooperation
to work together.
$ To work towards planned priorities and
objectives resulting from the project with a view to
contributing significantly to the training and professional
development of all museum workers.
$ To include consideration of further work
to assess ICTOP=s role within the wider (non-ICOM)
international museum community
(It is understood that this project is to obtain perceptions
and ideas for guidance and discussion rather than to conduct
a statistically reliable study. At this stage, the survey is
limited to ICOM members even though ICTOP is well aware that
there are many organizations and individuals who are engaged
in training and professional development of museum workers
who are not ICOM or ICTOP members)
