As an executive director of a small museum, and on a contract. I had
10 days vacation per year, and paid vacation. My staff were not
provided vacation or sick days. Otherwise, if they wanted pay they
had to work...including holidays. I felt this was wrong. However,
I did convince the board to finally provide 4 free floating holidays
for my staff.
Yes, I felt quilty taking days off with pay, while my staff had to
work. I kept my vacation time as few days as possible.
Additionally, when I signed my contract, I asked for a certain percent
of the operating grant I wrote, with a stipulation that my staff receive
a portion additionally.
