There is no de facto standard and there can be no such standard -- even
while standards are being used for terminology control and data
dictionaries all over. Each museum must define its needs in terms of how
much cataloging and what kinds of management utilities are required.
A good consultant will be able to determine in discussion with museum staff
and by inspection of museum records what kind of object management package
is best suited for a particular institution.
