VACANCIES IN THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF IRELAND
Advertised in the Irish Independent 20 February 1997 and in
the Irish Times 21 February 1997
Applications are invited for the following positions to be
filled on the basis of 5 year contracts.
HEAD OF SERVICES (Ref. 1/97)
Salary: IR36,263 per annum
Responsible for:
Assisting in the overall management of the Museum, co-
ordinating all Museum aspects of the Collins Barracks
development; developing and managing the departments
concerned with Conservation, Marketing, Commercial
Operations, Photography and Graphic Art, Education.
Qualifications and Attributes:
A proven track record in Management and possessing a high
level of administrative, financial, communication and
interpersonal skills with an ability to bring a goal
orientated approach to the operations of the Museum. Good
leadership qualities and an ability to motivate a multi-
disciplinary staff.
HEAD OF CONSERVATION (Ref. 2/97)
Salary: IR30,601 per annum
Responsible for:
Developing and implementing the highest standards of
conservation for the collections including setting up a
conservation laboratory for the National Museum, which
will service the needs of all the divisions.
Qualifications and Attributes:
A recognised honours degree in conservation, or an
honours degree in a relevant discipline and wide
experience in conserving and in responsibility for
conserving museum collections. Ability to supervise and
motivate staff and to handle the different and sometimes
competing needs of the various divisions.
HEAD OF MARKETING (Ref. 3/97)
Salary: IR30,601 per annum
Responsible for:
Marketing and Commercial Operations including drafting,
implementing and co-ordinating an overall marketing plan
for the National Museum as an important cultural and
academic institution.
Qualifications and Attributes:
A broad range of relevant experience; appropriate
managerial skills with an ability to supervise and
motivate staff. Initiative and flair together with
effective communications skills and an awareness and
understanding of market forces, an interest in and a good
sense of Public Relations and interaction with the media.
REGISTRAR AND I.T. MANAGER (Ref.4197)
Salary: IR26,795 per annum
Responsible for:
Documentation strategy and collections information
handling for the Museum including library and archive
facilities and information technology for all areas of
the Museum.
Qualifications and Attributes:
Relevant experience in a similar institution; proven
ability in computerised documentation of collections;
experience in management and good communication skills;
wide-ranging knowledge of the documentation, collections
and curatorial processes within a museum environment.
EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH OFFICER (Ref. 5197)
Salary: IR26,795 per annum
Responsible for:
Developing, expanding and implementing the Museum's
education programmes and outreach programme, as well as
providing an information service.
Qualifications and Attributes:
A recognised degree in a relevant subject is essential. A
suitable qualification in Education and experience in
bringing education to the community is desirable.
Effective communication skills, good organisational
ability, initiative, flair and an innovative approach to
providing a museum education service.
ACCOMMODATION, SECURITY AND HOUSE MANAGER (Ref. 6/97)
Salary: IR19,942 per annum
Responsible for:
All accommodation and security needs together with
supervision of the front of house staff in the Museum's
buildings.
Qualifications and Attributes:
Relevant experience in management, good communication
skills, a thorough knowledge of computerised security
technology and its applications, and a knowledge of
Health and Safety legislation. Candidates must be of good
character and personal integrity, be self motivated and
have an ability to lead and motivate staff.
