The Rosenberg Gallery at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, USA,
is planning an exhibition called "Artist as Collector." This exhibition
will feature U.S. artists who collect anything--artwork, objects or
ephemera--and whose collections influence, inspire or become
incorporated into their own artwork. Both the artwork and objects from
the collection or photographs of the collection will be included in the
display. We are currently running a call for entries for the show and
works will be selected by June 15, 1997.
This exhibition will be on view to coincide with a major exhibition
opening in October 1997 at the Baltimore Museum of Art titled, "A Grand
Design: The Art of the Victoria and Albert Museum." The BMA exhibition
will showcase 250 works from the wide-ranging V&A collection that have
never before traveled to North America. The Rosenberg Gallery is
exploring whether there are small museums or art galleries in cities on
the "Grand Design" schedule that would like to host "Artist as
Collector." (Our space has 144 running feet of wall space and a 32' x
16' area where sculpture can be displayed, to give you an idea of the
size of the show.) The North American "Grand Design" schedule is as
follows:
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston: Feb. 25 - May 17, 1998
Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto: June 20 - Sept. 13, 1998
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston: Oct. 18 - Jan. 10, 1999
Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco: Feb. 13 - May 9, 1999
