Hello everybody,
I am an Interior Design student currently working on my Bachelor thesis
project. I would like to try and develop a custom made system for small
galleries to house and exhibit temporary exhibitions. I am working
based on the theories that I have developed through my research. Since I
do not have any formal experience in exhibit design I am worried that my
assumptions are weak and therefore my solutions impractical.
The system is to be designed for each gallery space individually, based
on the space and the particular subject matter of the gallery, hence the
idea of custom designed system. This system will be created for a
particular space and can not be transported to be used in another gallery
space. The system would be a combination of moving partition walls,
highly adaptable walls, moving floors and adjustable ceilings.
my questions are:
1. Has any of you ever came across anything similar?
2. Let's assume you are the owner of a small and specialized gallery, would
you be interested in investing your money in such a project? In other
words would you find it use-able in the long run?
3. Would you think it is the craziest thing you have ever heard?!
I am assuming that the initial cost is going to be quite high. But my
research indicates that small galleries usually struggle financialy
sometimes to the point of not knowing if there IS going to be another
show. By having a custom-made and quite flexible system in their space,
I would like to think the only major cost they should worry about is
paint coats! I am also looking at the way theaters invest in creating a
highly flexible set and adopt it for various purposes.
I am sorry if this message is too long. I do however appreciate any
comments, suggestions, advice or critisism you might be able to offer me.
I sincerely thank you in advance. Your professionalism and experience
would be greatly valued.
