I am posting this for a friend not on the list:

    They have just learned of a mid-1800s era home that will be coming
    to their Museum as a gift.  The home is in good shape but has been
    up dated twice in the past.  The goal is to bring the home back to
    its origional appearance.

    Of course, there is no funding.  This home is in an area where
    there are almost no historic structures left--this is one of maybe
    two left in the area.

    Questions:

    1)  What steps does one take to have a home placed on the national
    register?  What are the advantages to this?


    2)  Are there any granting agencies / foundations specifically
    aimed at helping to raise money for such projects?


    3) What set backs or mistakes have any of you encountered in such
    a project that you would undo if possible?

    4)  Any other advice?
