There has been a lot of dissatisfaction expressed on this list regarding
the level of our salaries. We seem to be in agreement regarding the need
to work together to remedy this problem. A good first step is obviously
to correlate salaries in Museums of various types with each other and with
local cost of living in each region of the U.S.
Unfortunately, over and over, we come upon the same brick walls - the
statistics are available but they're old, or they are fairly recent but
cost more than we can afford to pay, or the surveys don't correlate
salaries with local cost of living. Any positivie suggestions/solutions?
What about ways for organizations (AAM, MAAM etc.) to help? One suggestion
I have seen is for their publications to cease to print job advertisements
which do not list a salary. Any other suggestions?
Anyone out there want to work on this? I am willing to help, for
example, by correlating numbers (if I can get them) and trying to make
information available to interested parties. Any reasonable,
cost-effective suggestions for the latter?
