Cultural Resource Management Program, University of Victoria
Financial Management in Cultural Organizations
Stable, effective organizations build their success on principles and
practices of sound financial planning, development, and management.
Using a business planning framework, this course stresses financial
planning, forecasting, and reporting in all aspects of management. You
will develop your management skills and confidence through an
understanding of these topics:
• the nature and values of museums and other cultural organizations
• accountability
• financial management cycles
• budgeting and resource allocation
• forecasting revenues and expenditures
• internal controls, evaluation, and audit
• management of revenue centres
• legal and ethical issues
As you should be familiar with basic bookkeeping requirements and
procedures, these are addressed through advance readings.
Instructor: Pauline Thompson is a Chartered Accountant and Managing
Director, Operations at Science World in Vancouver

Fee: $589 Canadian (approx. $412 U.S.) including readings and resource materials
credit and non-credit options available
