Carol- I suggest contacting the American Association of Museums for
Technical Assistance. I believe they should have examples on hand to share
with you. You might also have a good deal of success consulting the
"Official Museum Directory" which most libraries have on hand.
College and university governance structures vary widely. In some instances
the Director simply reports to the Department Head, in others, directly to
the Dean of the College or to the President. In one instance I am aware of,
the Gallery Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees. Some
university galleries have friends groups, advisory groups, etc., others do
not. Some university museum directors are responsible for a certain amount
of fundraising, others are prohibited from fundraising because of development
initiatives elsewhere on campus. Each situation seems to be unique in one way
or another.
