Just to provide a bit of reference material, the most recent edition of
of the Canadian Journal of Archaeology (CJA) contains an article entitled
"Archaeology's Public: A Perspective From Two Canadian Museums" (CJA,
1996, Vol. 20) that presents the results of museum visitor surveys and
their viewing behaviour at the Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto) and the
University of British Columbia Museum of Anthropology (Vancouver). It
gives an interesting profile of just who the visitors/guests generally
are that walk through the doors of these two institutions, as well as
suggesting ways in which to expand and better serve "the consuming
public".
